Confession: I haven’t had a personal blog in over 10 years. A few years ago I ran a music podcast. But since then I haven’t had much of an online presence at all. The ironic part is the world of blogging is how I got to where I am today. I learned WordPress and PHP because I wanted to know how to maintain my own blog and I now make my living developing web sites for others using WordPress as one of my tools.
I was never ready enough to start writing about my experiences as a web developer. We hear ‘share your knowledge’ over and over. I’ve been told that many times and I haven’t been ready to do so. I’m still not ready. Sometimes you have to push forward and do those things you feel you’re not ready for.
I didn’t think I was ready when I landed my first client a few years ago. But I learned quickly that I knew what I needed to do. I didn’t think I was good enough when I started working full time at an agency a couple years ago. My fears were unfounded.
One thing I’ve learned about fear over the past few years is that it’s usually unfounded. When it comes to putting yourself out there to the world and a little voice keeps nagging at you saying you’re not good enough, ignore the voice. It’s not always easy but do it anyway.
Here I am putting myself out there saying hello to the development world, ignoring that voice screaming at me that I’m not good enough and I need to stop. I’m pushing forward because my voice, my unique experiences, and my knowledge needs to be shared.
